About Locke & Lode

Since 2003, I (Barry Locke) have been designing, crafting and selling Leather goods. With an engineering bakground I specialise in fully articulated armour designed for comfort and freedom of movement. I originally learned the basics of leatherworking through the Eldrtich Workshop, and after several years I broke out on my own starting both a web & LARP event shop under the name Lockes Leather.

During 2013-2020 I joined forces with Gems trading Co and expanded both my range of designs and custom work.

Throughout the years I have expanded my skills in Leatherworking, understanding requirements of customers and how body shapes effect design. In the last 4 years I have been nominated several times and won second place in the UK LARP Awards in the “Best Leatherworker catagory”. I find this flattering and it never fails to inspire me to push harder and experiment in new and innovative ways. I pride myself on punctual completion of orders and general customer service, responding to my customers needs as required.

Materials and Methods

At Locke & Lode I only use the highest quality leathers. The majority of pieces are made from Italian vegtan shoulder. This leather will be hand dyed, edge beveled both sides, slicked and then waxed to a high quality finish. Black leather comes pre dyed, but is the same quality as the natrual Italian vegtan shoulder (3.5-4mm thickness). We generally use solid brass fixings and buckles on Locke & Lode articulated armour, this gives a very strong strap and buckle system for the armour.

All Locke & Lode items that have been stitched have been done so by hand, using very durable nylon thread. At this weight the nylon thread looks just like cotton but is much stronger and not susceptible to being weakened by the weather or other enviromental conditions.

Utilising high quailty double capped rivets to ensure durability and strength. I use an antique brass finish or a satin Nickel based finish depending on the colour of the Leather.

Brown = Antique Brass

Black = Satin Nickel (Silver)

Red = Satin Nickel (Silver)

Blue = Satin Nickel (Silver)

Green = Antique Brass

Purple = Satin Nickel (Silver)

If you would like a different rivet colour please put this in the notes for your purchase and it will be done for no additional cost.
